DUM LAGA KE HAISHA - A simple, sweet but hurriedly made film lacking emotional depth with a soundtrack reminding you of the musical 80s & 90s. (Review by Bobby Sing).

QISSA (Punjabi) - A complex tale of an obsessed father and his sickening proud to have a son ruining many lives. (Review By Bobby Sing).

BADLAPUR - Though its second half & climax is bound to meet mixed responses, still do watch it for the director's crafty execution & all intense performances as a must. (Review By Bobby Sing).

MSG THE MESSENGER - Its actually not a movie but a 3 hour long, tacky 'Showreel of the Dera' made for its existing and would-be followers alone. (Not A Review By Bobby Sing).

ROY - For what kind of target audience you actually made this dear film-maker? (Review By Bobby Sing).

The three introspective lines in THE BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL (2011) - (Life Teaching Dialogues / Songs from Films (3) - By Bobby Sing).

SHAMITABH - An uneven film made on a fresh concept that deserves to be seen for its polished performances, few well written highs & a thoughtful climax. (Review By Bobby Sing).

EH JANAM TUMHARE LEKHE (Punjabi) - Watch it as a must to honour the lesser known blessed soul BHAGAT PURAN SINGH and the underrated powerhouse of talent PAWAN MALHOTRA. (Review By Bobby Sing).

HAWAIZAADA - A tiring, comical execution stressing more on frames, songs & romance ruins the actual seriousness of the subject & performances. (Review By Bobby Sing).

RAHASYA - Do watch it if u love 'whodunit' suspense movies or novels & don't reveal the secret as a responsible movie-goer. (Review By Bobby Sing).

100 Best Performances of Hindi Cinema - Bobby Talks Cinema.com

The listing here is purely based on individual power packed performances by the actors, irrespective of the success or failure of the movies taken into consideration.
And the first two entries have been given a special mention for a specific reason.

If we include all the masterpieces featuring the two legends of Hindi Film Industry, Dilip Kumar & Amitabh Bachchan as individual entries, then they will indisputably capture a substantial number of counts, which will in turn forcibly keep many deserving movies out of the list. Hence all the world famous movies of these two veterans are respectably included as the first & second entries of the 100 Best.

Written in alphabetical order (except the first two), many readers may find the list incomplete, as their favourite performance or actor might be missing in the Final 100. So, I would like to request to add your favourite acts in a comment following the post (as your personal recommendation) which will surely help the write-up to be more comprehensive from all angles. Hritik Roshan/Fiza

Salf Ali Khan/Omkara

Aamir Khan/Earth

Abhay Deol/Dev D

Thanks Varun for writing in with your submissions and following is my detailed reply for the same.

Firstly to give you more on this, a lot has been already discussed regarding many more insertions which can be read in the PDF files shared having all the previous comments posted on the subject (Link given at the end of the post above.)
So pls do find some time to chek that out too .

Secondly, your suggestions clearly reveal that you have more seen the cinema of the new millennium and less of the era before the 80s and thus the comparison has not really been made.

Thirdly you probably also have studied the list quickly since the following are already there in the list and you missed them out somehow.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui in Gangs of Wasseypur 2 (Interestingly he was not at all there as the main actor in the first part).
(Included in other worth mentioning performances)
Pankaj Kapor in Maqbool
(Right there in the list, right from its first version)

Lastly, all the rest in your list range from good to great performances no doubt. But they are certainly not which can inspire me to take out any one out of the already listed and replace.

And to understand this you got to see all the 100 listed performances first before comparing them in an imbalanced manner. So do give some time to catch all those great movies and see to it yourself.

Thanks Varun and have a real good time watching them all.

Kangna Ranaut in Queen.

submitted on 15 May 2014

Dear Suchith,
It surely should be there in the Top 100 in the next update.
Thanks for writing in and keep visiting,

submitted on 14 June 2014

Must say it's a very well researched list.
For year 2014 , I think Juhi Chawla's performance in Gulaab Gang is worth addition to the list.
The performance won her Dadasaheb Phalke Award (Best Actress) even though it was short as 30 mins role.

submitted on 17 June 2014

Dear Saurabh,
Thanks for visiting and appreciating the list compiled here after making much efforts and sortings.
Regarding the recommendation, If you have read my review of  'Gulaab Gang' then I have too praised Juhi's unique effort a lot in the said film.
But substituting it with another grand performance from the list is really quite difficult for me frankly.

However please do keep visiting and writing in as there is lot to be read at the site in its various sections and I am sure you would love spending time there too.

Emraan hashmi and ajay devgan in once upon a time in mumbai ??

Shahrukh in chak de india!
submitted on 03 July 2014

Hi Ninad Joshi,
Shahrukh Khan in Chak De India is right there in the other major performances.
But for the other inclusions recommended I would like to suggest that please try to watch all the mentioned performances in the list and then compare on your own on merit basis.

Ajay devgan in The legend of bhagat singh...Just watched it again and what a performance!!!
submitted on 04 July 2014

Hi Suchith,
I can understand your love & appreciation for Ajay Devgun.
But as a friend I would like to inform that all the recent Bhagat Singh projects are mere commercial projects only minus the spirit as well as the feel.
So if you do want to be in that gone era then essentially watch Manoj Kumar's SHAHEED which till date remains the most authentic movie on the revolutionary icon with the script contributions coming from Bhagat Singh's own family.

And I am sure you would realise that readily after watching it.

Srk In Dil Se, it is such a nuanced and subtle perfomance compared to his others, and i do love the way he handles his characters tranformation going trough the Seven Shades Of Love. I know this might be cliche but I truly believe he got under the skin of his charachter.

submitted on 16 July 2014

Dear Varun,
SRK in DIL SE was no doubt good. But I would request to first watch all the other performances in the list and then see how can any of it be replaced by this honestly.

Hi Bobbyji,
Can you add Raj Kapoor's Teesri Kasam performance in your list of great performances? Cheers

submitted on 20 July 2014

Hi Prakash Ji,
Incidentally this was in my mind since I had written a piece on TEESRI KASAM recently.
But in the said list the maximum entries for any artist have been set to 3 and RK is already there for three splendid performances of his since the first version only.
So now either I can replace one of these three with TEESRI KASAM or include the name in the other worth watching performances list quite deservingly.
Hence do let me know what would be a better choice frankly.

Hi Bobbyji,
I can understand your predicament and dilemma. But since you have made this discovery and even tried to differentiate his performance from Jagte Raho so his performance of Teesri Kasam deserves prominent mention.I think you need not delete earlier mentioned performances of his but add this one also and retitle you page as'101best performances of Hindi cinema.Make it an exception for this great artist.Cheers

submitted on 24 July 2014

Yes Prakash Ji,
I would surely keep that in mind in the next update of the post surely.

submitted on 06 August 2014

Hi Sandeep,
As per the suggestions given, there has been a lot already  been discussed in the earlier comments (more than 200) which have been compiled and available for download if you wish to study them all and the reasons given in them too.

Still in short I would like to say, that out of your mentioned names,
Yes, Rajkumar Rao for Shahid deserves to be there for sure.
Kangan will be there for Queen
Sanjay Mishra will be there for Ankhon Dekhi in the next update.

Out of the rest these can be mentioned in the worth appreciating list
Alia Bhatt for Highway
Kangana Ranaut for  Fashion
Naseeruddin Shah for A Wednesday
Kay Kay Menon for Black Friday

But I don't have a Debut inclusion in the article so that will not be there.

Thanks for your valuable comment and keep writing in.

Sir! Although it is my personal opinion but i found Rajkumar Yadav's performance in Shahid missing here. Which is actually a superlative performance. Also Shaini Ahuja's performance in Hazaron Khwahishein Aissi is atleast worth mention if not commendable enough to make it in 100.

submitted on 19 October 2014

Hi Vishnu Mahesh Sharma,
Yes you are very right in your recommendation as Rajkumar Yadav certainly deserves it.
Though I would not be able to say the same for Shaini Ahuja's in Hazaron Khwahishein Aisee, but you will soon see all the new changes in the updated list in the coming weeks.

Sir, i agree with all the performances mentioned above... but i think kajol in dushman and karishma in fiza can be added in worth appreciation list ..at least they were not melodrama and were leading roles with different characters respectively..I hope you agree ..
submitted on 26 November 2014

Thanks for writing in Prashant with your recommendations.
Yes Kajol was fine in DUSHMAN but actually that routine kind of storyline of revenge did become worth watching due to Ashutosh Rana's cruel depiction more for which he won awards too. Plus Karishma was good in FIZA, but the film let her and its other performers down with its leser impact on the audience.

Keep Visiting and Writing in,

submitted on 19 February 2015
I do agree with the names in the list but i think few more names must be there like Sahrukh khan for chak de india Rani mukherji for No one killed jesica and also for Yuva Kangna Ranaut in Queen Amir khan fkr Taare zameen par and also for 3 idiots....
submitted on 24 February 2015

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for writing in and it is requested that if really interested in the subject then please find time to go through the more than 600 earlier responses compiled in the PDF files, link of which is given at the end of the articles.

Because every single film and reason for not including it is already there in those interactions in details.
However regarding Shahrukh in Chakk De India and Aamir in Taarey Zameen Par, pls check again as they are already there in the Worth Mentioning Acts apart from the main ones.

And please note that there is a huge difference between the lead performance and a supporting act in the film to be precise.

Plus Kangna is sure going to be there in the next update of the list coming soon.

So keep visiting for more.

Tigmanshu Dhulia (Gangs Of Wasseypur)

Ajay Devgn (Zakhm)

Richa Chadda (Gangs Of Wasseypur)

And Khan in Kabhi Hain Kabhi Nain

Performance that could be taken of the list in exchange of my request could be...

Sanjay Dutt in Vaastav (The performance had some truly gutwrenching moments, but during the remainder of the movie he does not truly excell)

Hritik Roshan in Jodha Akbar (I just could not see him as the charachter... this is my subjective opinion)

Amitabh Bachan in Sarkar and Sarkar Raj ( The charachter was not something brilliant and new that has never been seen in hindi cinema before. The broding old man...)

These are the only performances that i could think of replacing which is a true testament to how great the included performances are.

The maddenig thing ios that while writing this list, i came up with several other performances that should be there...

Pankaj Kapoor in Raakh

Atul Kulkarni in Chandni Bar and Hey Ram

Rohit Roy in Udaan

submitted on 24 February 2015
Dear Varun Neermal,

Thanks for writing in your suggestions in three of your continuing comments.
And since you seem to be interested in details therefore I would like to guide you further on your submissions as below.

1. First of all its requested that if really interested in the subject then please find time to go through the more than 600 earlier responses compiled in the PDF files, link of which is given at the end of the articles.
Because every single film and reason for not including it is already there in those interactions in details.
2. Secondly from your comments its quite evident that you are more versed with the cinema post the 90s and are not exactly into the Golden Era of our films that have many more gems not listed here.

So would humbly request to go more into exploring those classics, ignoring the films post the 90s.
Particularly search for the Art wave cinema of the late 70s and 80s.

3. Thirdly, please note that there is a huge difference between the lead performance and a supporting act in the film to be precise.
Here we are talking about those performances that take on the film from the front. In a very rare case it can be a supporting act too like that of Anu Kapoor and Pankaj Kapoor in EK RUKA HUA FAISLA (you must have seen it essentially)

But none of these mentioned by you lead the film from the front and they are all great supporting acts to give you the real picture.
Tigmanshu Dhulia (Gangs Of Wasseypur)
Richa Chadda (Gangs Of Wasseypur)
Pankaj Kapoor in (Raakh)
Atul Kulkarni in (Chandni Bar) and (Hey Ram)
Rohit Roy in (Udaan)

4. From the main acts submission you gave, again these are all great but not above any of the ones included in the list.

Ranbir Kapoor (Wake Up Sid)
Ajay Devgn (Zakhm)
Karisma Kapoor (Zubeida)
Shah Rukh Khan in (Kabhi Hain Kabhi Nain)

5. Regarding Raj Kapoor (Awara) he was great in it but excelled himself in SHREE 420. Moreover please note that in the list a particular artist is given 3 entries maximum to give a chance to others too. Otherwise the list will be full of many artists taking up 5-6 places that will be unfair.

So Raj Kapoor is right there with his 3 best performances in the list.

And for the same reason both Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan are also restricted to only 2 entries of their best films in the beginning only to avoid many of their multiple entries. (Amitabh is only added for PAA in the list afterwards)

6. You might have a personal opinion about Sanjay Dutt but the actor is still known for his VAASTAV act alone much before of those Munna bhai’s that actually depended on many more things too.

7. Please chek again the complete article as both Hrithik Roshan in Jodha Akbar and Amitabh Bachchan in Sarkar/Sarkar Raj are not in the main 100 list but in the other worth mentioning acts listed after the MAIN LIST.

8. Lastly this is the list till May 2013 and now will be updated soon with likes of Kangna and Sanjay Mishra to enter the list, the acts much ahead than any of those submitted.
So please do keep visiting as the list will be updated soon in the coming weeks.
