Black Friday - Bobby Talks Cinema.com

The title refers to the deadly Friday which witnessed the most lethal series of bomb blasts in India (Mumbai) in the year 1993 leading to severe loss of the life and property. The incident is said to be responsible for changing the life styles, relationships and daily pattern of living in the business center of India, then called Bombay.

The movie is a true to life account of sequences before and after the blasts, boldly taking actual names of the accused as per the records. It’s just like watching something straight from the Police records with very authentic portrayals of raids, interrogations and arrests made by the Police in those years. Hence it may not be a normal film experience for many viewers since it requires a completely different kind of mind-set to watch it in absence of any default settings of a Bollywood movie.

Incidentally “Black Friday” actually took a few years to reach the silver screen with a proper release due to its very realistic filming of the incident. The authorities feared that it really had the power to trigger on something deadly again in the society, if it was publicly shown before the result of the ongoing trial in the court. After its release, though the film was not a runaway box office success, but it was rightly accepted as a pure masterpiece of the Indian Cinema directed by Anurag Kashyap, the famous new-age film makers of the current times.

If you really love meaningful cinema and don’t mind watching extremely disturbing films based on real life inhuman tragedies around us, then give yourself a treat and watch “Black Friday” at the earliest. The movie holds three aces in its sleeve in the form of its highly impressive direction, explosive and realistic performances and the haunting background music which makes you feel the blood splashed on the screen. The words sung by “Indian Ocean” would definitely stay in your minds for long after your have watched this true to life gem. And they go as,

“Arey Ruk Ja O Bande, Arey Tham Ja O Bande, Ke Kudrat Has Padhegi……Ho…”

Directed by Anurag Kashyap
Starring : K.K., Pawan Malhotra, Aditya Srivastava and more.
Music by Indian Ocean – The Rock Band.
