Guddi - Bobby Talks Cinema.com

An important, realistic movie made by Hrishikesh Mukherjee on a very socially relevant topic even today. It’s about how young teenagers, fall in love with the movie stars and leave their houses to be in films. It’s about the big dreams which are easy to conceive but difficult to achieve. And it’s also an eye opener on the inner truths of Indian Film Industry. In fact it is one of those few impressive and intelligent movies made on the background of films and film-making.

Jaya Bhaduri Bachchan looks stunningly innocent as Guddi and Utpal Dutt is simply lovable as the professor who plans all the false staging. A well written movie, enlightening the viewer on how the film industry works and what are the difficulties faced by everyone at the backstage behind the screen. It is indeed very amusing to see all the stars, Dharmendra, Pran and more playing themselves in the movie, helping the young girl come out of her illusion world. A true masterpiece, simply to be seen as a compulsion for all movie lovers and students of cinema.
