The upcoming JUDWAA 2 is the one film everyone is quite excited about and the project is giving some good vibes too as per business of cinema is concerned, that is sadly more discussed nowadays than the content and quality of a film.

However what’s even more interested about JUDWAA 2 is that the film is a rare case of being a new-age, trendy remake with four films in the chain. And here are the details of this amusing list of films mentioned below.

JUDWAA 2 (2017) featuring Varun Dhawan (in his first double role), Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez, is actually not a sequel but a kind of updated version/remake of JUDWAA released two decades back in 1997 based on the entertaining story of two separated twin brothers. It had Salman Khan, Karishma Kapoor and Rambha playing the key roles and the film did well getting a big support coming from its famous soundtrack composed by Anu Malik. According to David Dhawan (the director of both the films), JUDWAA 2 is actually a reboot and not a sequel as he wished to re-present his favourite sequences from the original in a fresh ‘updated’ form appealing to the young ‘new-age’ audience. The present reboot also re-uses two hit songs of its source as “Oonchi Hai Building” and “Chalti Hai Kya Nau Se Baarah” now being considered as the project's major highlight. Plus both the films have been produced by Sajid Nadiadwala or Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment.

JUDWAA (1997) was the first film of Salman Khan and David Dhawan together and the first double role of Salman too well accepted by the audience. Interestingly JUDWAA itself was the official remake of the 1994 Telugu Hit HELLO BROTHER.

Hello-Brother-Twin-Dragons
HELLO BROTHER (1994/Telugu) was directed by E.V.V. Satyanarayana and had Nagarjuna (in double role), Ramya (now more famous for BAHUBALI) and Soundarya playing the lead. The film was a big Hit at the box office and was later remade in Kannada too (apart from Hindi). Another common feature between HELLO BROTHER and JUDWAA remains the use of a melodic phrase blatantly taken from Deep Forest’s White Whisper track in their songs and background music.

Ironically HELLO BROTHER too was unofficially adapted from the original Jackie Chan film SEONG LUNG WUI aka TWIN DRAGONS released in 1992, lifting many exact sequences that were later also incorporated in all the remakes. But a lot more was added into this adaptation too including a comic plot of two police officials and a tragic sub-plot of a sister.

SEONG LUNG WUI aka TWIN DRAGONS (1992/Cantonese) was directed by Ringo Lam and Hark Tsui, featuring Jackie Chan (as twins), Maggie Cheung and Nina Li Chiin the lead roles. Though not among the best films of Chan, it was a big success and was later released in America too in a dubbed version.

So where JUDWAA 2 (2017) is an official remake of JUDWAA (1997).
JUDWAA (1997) was an official remake of HELLO BROTHER (1994/Telugu).
And HELLO BROTHER (1994/Telugu) was an unofficial remake/adaptation of SEONG LUNG WUI aka TWIN DRAGONS (1992/Cantonese).

Hence a rare case of a trendy remake with an amusing chain of films!

In addition, another interesting fact in films mentioned above is that they all had the first double role played in the careers by all the four leading men namely Jackie Chan, Nagarjuna, Salman Khan and Varun Dhawan in that particular order.

Cheers!
