Indian regional language cinema delivers another path-breaking milestone as KARMA, a suspense mystery drama that amazes you both with its content and execution together, along with becoming the first Tamil movie to release directly online without any theatrical release.
And why it is considered to be an exceptional, path-breaking experimental movie?
That’s because it’s a murder-suspense/mystery based on a police interrogation shot in just a single room with only two people talking to each other for an hour and nothing else.
A known crime novelist’s wife has been murdered and a special investigation officer is interrogating him (in the writer’s study) talking about every single person related to the couple and the night of the murder. The officer keeps asking the questions and the writer goes on answering with patience giving the details as required till they both reach a dead end finding the real culprit. Though for keen followers of this genre, the mystery might not be that exciting or shocking, turning predictable towards the end. But it’s the innovative execution and screenplay that keeps you glued to the screen enhanced by a noteworthy background score and an intelligent camerawork. Plus, the climax smartly leaves you in a seriously thinking mode with more than one conclusion or possibility making it even more interesting.

Having said that, the major triumph of the brilliant effort (for which the film gets included in the Must See Movies List at BTC) actually gets revealed in the end-credits, when you come to know that the film has been written, produced, directed and enacted by only one person alone as R. Arvind.
