Sometimes destiny plays cruel and unpredictable games in life which in turn brings drastic changes in your life patterns. That is the basic theme of this intense emotional drama by Gulzar. It starts with a simple loving story when Sanjeev Kumar who is on a short visit to a Hill Station, meets a local Hakim and his daughter incidentally. After spending few days there he returns to his normal life with fond memories of his short but loving trip.

Later, after many years he is in shock to see a girl with a face resembling the Hakim’s Daughter, working as a prostitute. And further his whole life comes to a halt knowing that she is his own daughter, now facing the hardships of life, due to the fact that he never returned to keep his promise. An emotional story dealing with regret and forgiveness. Gulzar once again gives a polished and emotional movie with some fabulous songs. Madan Mohan gives memorable tunes to his rich lyrics and Sharmila Tagore is superb in the double role and a delight to watch. An adorable movie for all who believe in love.
