Sanjay Leela Bhansali rightly mentions his inspirational source in the opening credits of his movie, “Saawariya”. This time he is inspired by an old, Russian love story called “White Nights”, which talks about a person in love with a girl who already has another love interest in her life.

If we talk about world cinema, then there are two other movies, made on the same story mentioned below :

1. “Notti bianche, Le” (1957) (French - Itlay).

2. Four Nights of a Dreamer or Quatre nuits d'un rêveur (1971)

3. White Nights (2005)

And if we talk about our Indian Cinema, then a similar kind of storyline was there in Abhay Deol & Soha Ali Khan Starrer “Ahista Ahista” (2006). And the same theme was also witnessed in Raj Kapoor & Nutan starrer “Chhalia” (1960).
