ALBERT PINTO KO GUSSA KYUN AATA HAI (2019) - The title of 1980s thought provoking film used for conveying almost nothing. [TTP (To The Point) Review by Bobby Sing]

The art-wave or off-beat cinema of the 80s had a prominent film by Saeed Mirza titled ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Ata Hai’ with Naseeruddin Shah playing the lead role of Albert Pinto. The film was all about the anger and helplessness felt by the common man post the emergency era and is considered an important socially thought provoking film of those crucial times.

The recent film released in 2019 with the same title does have an exciting cast featuring Manav Kaul, Nandita Das and Saurabh Shukla playing the three lead characters. However, it doesn’t prove itself worthy enough of using the title of Saeed Mirza’s widely known and important creation of the 80s. In fact as the film ends, the very first conclusion you have in mind is that the makers used this title only to gain some instant attention which otherwise conveyed almost nothing related to its storyline.

Yes, the script has a reference of its lead character suppressing his anger and revolt against the questionable state of affairs as a common man, but that too is presented in a pretty confusing and uninteresting manner beginning with a non-linear narrative actually killing the expectations raised by its famous title. Moreover, its main plot of the middle class protagonist quitting to complete his first crime assignment as a hitman and Nandita Das re-appearing as different characters seems to be completely going off the subject as a deliberate move to look highly artistic and thoughtful.

As a result, despite the crisp running time of just around 90+ minutes, the 2019’s Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyun Aata Hai actually serves no purpose and isn’t convincing at all as a wasted opportunity. Unfortunately many a times, even dependable names and fine performances too cannot lift up the film that has nothing significant to say in its content.

Rating : 2 / 5
Directed by Soumittra Ranade

Starring : Manav Kaul, Nandita Das, Saurabh Shukla and more.

(Note : At the time of posting this write-up the film could be seen at Netflix)
