A crime thriller revolving around young gangsters and gang wars operating in the local regions, ANGAMALY DIARIES won a wide critical acclaim along with box office success majorly because of its rustic craft, realistic depiction and style of filmmaking, much more than its thin storyline or the basic theme.
Putting it honestly, the film hasn’t got anything fresh to convey in terms of subject or plot, but it becomes a winner because of the way director Lijo Jose Pellissery executes it on screen along a remarkable cinematography, action, background score and fabulous casting in particular. In fact the casting alone makes it a must watch film by all means as it features around 85 debutant actors playing various important and short roles including the main leads (certainly sounds liks a record). Plus it has a terrifically directed 11 minutes long climax (shot in a single take) involving hundreds of artists performing different activities in the backdrop.
So ignoring it’s entirely familiar theme, do watch ANGAMALY DIARIES for its rich regional visuals, DOP, music and all worth praising natural debutants creating many outstanding moments, without even giving a single hint of the film being their debut project. And therefore the director truly deserves a big roaring applause for such sincere, courageous and path breaking attempt made in our Indian Cinema.
