DRIVE - A direct online release is nothing bad, but this film certainly is and should be avoided even there. (Review by Bobby Sing)

Films releasing directly online is not any unusual concept and its not always related to badly made films to be precise. The trend has been there in the west and it has recently started here in INDIA through the new online portals. However, the major difference is that here it has actually started with a badly made film and that too coming from the production house of Karan Johar.

Directly releasing at Netflix, the film is titled DRIVE starring Sushant Singh Rajput and Jacqueline Fernandes in the lead along with (hold your breath), the otherwise scene stealers Boman Irani and Pankaj Tripathi. But putting it bluntly, any kind of worth mentioning performances should not be anywhere in your minimum expectations from the film reading the names above.

As per the title, DRIVE begins right away with a fast-paced race sequence and the fake graphical representation at once puts you off questioning your decision to watch it. But in case you still decide to go on, then it later becomes an absolutely silly or highly absurd heist movie wherein the corrupt government officials have stashed loads of black money in a hideout inside the Rashtrapati Bhavan itself and our key characters plan to steal it from right under the nose of country’s highest security agencies and the maximum security region.

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani (in some kind of trance) the onscreen presentation has thieves dressed as glamourous models, the government officials acting as mere fools, special effects used in a bizarre manner and the heist planned in the most awful style forgetting all about logic talking about the Rashtrapati Bhavan of the country. Highly influenced by many other Hindi films made in this particular genre (that were itself inspired from the films made in the West), DRIVE can easily be called an utterly confused film where probably the writers and director just needed to make something in the given time and within the given resources. And they hurriedly made this.

May be the worst possible, wannabe Abbas Mustaan film that cannot be even compared to the worst Abbas Mustaan film. So, as a producer Karan Johar was very right in his decision of releasing it directly online as that was the best he could do for his own production avoiding a complete dumping as they used to do it earlier. But then, it might also be a project made to show some losses as they occasionaly used to do in the gone decades. Quite possible!

In any case, just avoid, especially if you are a fan of anyone featuring in the film or in its technical department. But on second thoughts, who knows someone might like this too watching it without buying a ticket, sitting at home as just a time pass film. As they say, you never know.
