De Dana Dan (2009) & its inspirations

22 Dec, 2009 | Inspired Movies (Alphabetical) / D

Priyadarshan returns with his trademark style comedy flick featuring almost all the known comedians in the Hindi Film Industry. As suggested by its title the movie goes on and on with every character on the screen following the other and in the process trying very hard to make the viewers laugh. As usual, Priyadarshan once again takes his major inspiration from few English flicks and uses them in his own overused style.

The mistaken identity confusion in the hotel around few similar and confusing names is inspired from “Blame It on the Bellboy” (1992). The same movie also became the inspiration earlier for “One Two Three” which even had Paresh Rawal in a leading role.

The climax water disaster in a multi storey hotel is loosely based on a similar (not identical) kind of situation in “The Towering Inferno” (1974).

And the plot where a chauffeur kidnaps his rich boss’s dog for ransom is taken from “Screwed” (2000), where also the dog returns to his owner and then she thinks that it’s the chauffer who has been actually kidnapped for a ransom.
