Driving Miss Daisy (1989) - (Movies To See Before You Die - Drama)

23 May, 2008 | Movies To See Before You Die / Drama

An offbeat movie based on a loving relationship between an old lady employer and her old driver. A beautiful movie which talks about old age, its charm, its difficulties and the loneliness that slowly starts knocking on the door in our last days. Morgan Freeman, as the driver & friend of the old lady is a pure delight to watch in this emotional drama. He is perfectly cast and just fits to the role as a ‘T’.

The story is about the friendship between two persons who both are old and lonely. Whereas one accepts this truth gracefully, the other tries to avoid it. The movie starts with their years long sweet & sour relationship and ends when they are too old and just in their final years. The climax sequence of their last meeting is emotionally entertaining and one of the best scenes I have ever seen.

The movie is full of affectionate moments which you will love to see. It shows how old age brings changes in the behavior and the outlook of some people, as they are not ready to accept the truth of death. It is indeed an achievement for the director to present the bitter truth of life in such a loving manner. An OSCAR winner movie which surely deserves all the praises received for its content and performances. If you understand the value of unsaid relationships without any motive then it would be a great loss to miss “Driving Miss Daisy”.
