KAUN BANEGI SHIKHARWATI (Web Series) - A web-series of ten episodes needs to have content and not just names. (Notes by Bobby Sing)

A delusional King (living in his lost glory) sends a message to his four daughters living their chosen lives in the city, hinting towards his decision of declaring a successor. What he doesn’t convey to them is a huge wealth tax liability on him with a deadline and other grave issues related to his Riyasat. Besides, an income tax investigation is also going on against the King, with the officers probing his dealings, in disguise.

The premise that sounds interesting sadly turns out to be quite unengaging and repetitive right from the first episode itself, making a boring start. The characters of the dysfunctional family do not excite as they get introduced, and the same can be said about the entire series of 10 long episodes.

Despite an interesting ensemble with names such as Naseeruddin Shah, Raghubir Yadav, Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra, Anya Singh, and more, it makes you question why this series was made in the first place and how almost nothing in the name of content got approved.

A web series of 10 episodes needs to have content and not just names. And if you haven’t got much to say, then it should be restricted to just 4 to 5 episodes to be straight. Perhaps the payment for a 10 episode is a lot more, hence many producer-directors go on stretching it without any need, missing the promised entertainment.

Kaun Banegi Shikharwati is exactly that kind of series offering nothing. It also made me recall a statement by Naseeruddin Shah in which he confessed that a lot of projects are done just for money by almost everyone. This is another of those projects, as it seems.

A confusing series that is neither a suspense-based family drama nor a comedy, it continues with sequences inspired by Kaun Banega Crorepati, Master Chef, many online controversies, and the fake lifestyles of the so-called social influencers.

To be fair, the ladies keep trying hard in all the 10 episodes, but they get little to act upon from the writing department. Personally, it was only the beauty and charming appearance of Kritika Kamra that made me continue till the last, so the choice is all yours.
