The hit flick about the world of pornography movies takes it major content from “Hardcore”(1979). It’s not a complete rip off as it has its own original and new angles inserted, like the love and marriage sub-plot used in its early part. In the English flick it’s the father searching for her missing daughter which leads him to the video world of pornographic films. But in “Kalyug” it’s the husband who is looking out for culprits who caused the death of his innocent wife.

The movie is said to be very close to “8mm” (1999) too, which also revolves around a similar theme of investigating the underground world of objectionable movies.

However it should be added here that the Hindi version had all its emotions and drama in the right dosage, along with some worth remembering songs, which turned it into a big hit.
