Reality shows have been the hot favourite of TV channels as well as the audience since last decade or so and these prominently include the ones where both kids and adults compete with each other (in different contests) showcasing their individual talents. Reports of these shows being fixed or rigged have also been there in the news in the recent years and they have certainly lost a lot of credibility along a big part of their viewership due to the same.
However you might be surprised to know that these shows allegedly doing a fraud or deceiving the audience is not a new-age concept of the present era, but there have been cases in the past too facing many similar charges.
QUIZ SHOW (1994) directed by Robert Redford is one such eye-opener film revealing the same and its based on Richard N. Goodwin’s memoirs titled “Remembering America: A Voice From the Sixties”. Revolving around a famous television quiz show of 1958 called TWENTY ONE, the film enlightens you about a real scam of the TV world that shocked the people of America in the late 50s. Focusing on the rise and fall of a popular contestant in the show, it takes you into the backstage world of such hyped game-shows, informing how things get manipulated as per the requirement by its producers and directors, fooling the innocent audience.
Nominated in four major categories at the Oscars in 1995, namely Best Picture, Best Director, Best Writing on a published material and Best Actor in a Supporting Role, it’s a not to be missed exciting film, especially for the reality show fans out there, spending a lot of their valuable time blindly believing in their onscreen proceedings. Yes, it might not be true for all such TV shows but there can be no denying to the truth, that their execution does go through a deliberate change every week as per the falling or rising TRPs.
So do go for it as a must and taste the reality in a different way, knowing the untold truths hidden behind the curtains covering the actual games.
