A realistic film directed by Manoj Kumar, on the problem of class division, unemployment and poverty in India. An important movie of its time dealing with relevant and burning issues incorporated in an interesting screenplay.
 
The story revolves around a family finding it difficult to survive with young and educated brothers sitting unemployed at home. The situation forces a lover to betray her love interest in order to live a better life in riches. And with more tough times to face, the moral values of all the key characters witness a drastic and unavoidable change. It is a well written script using all the burning issues of that time in several interesting sub-plots.
 
The super-hit and meaningful songs in the movie are another highlight of this intense powerful drama. Indian Viewers will relate more to this movie as they are still facing similar kind of situations in their daily life. A well directed socially relevant movie which can also be termed as a showcase of Indian Society and its values.
