SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER 3 - It strangely looks like a stuck film released with a bad edit that rarely makes sense. (Review by Bobby Sing)

Director Tigmanshu Dhulia’s new release is a perfect example of two widely known facts about our Hindi film industry. One – it clearly reveals how meaningless sequels are actually ruining the worth of their original films. And Two – how the industry and the star-system mercilessly destroys its own talented directors who are capable of making world class gems.

In specific words, when you get to see a film like SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER 3 directed by the man behind new-age classics such as HAASIL, PAAN SINGH TOMAR and underrated ventures like CHARAS and SHAGIRD, then you are forced to think, what actually went wrong in the last many years or why the director is not the same as he was in his initial hugely impressive as well as successful creations?

The answer lies in the truth that in the present scenario, a director is not making film of his own choice or liking, but actually making films for which he can easily find the financers or in other case when hired by the producers or production houses to make ‘their’ choice of project. Now in both the cases, it’s the producers, commercial elements and stars who rule the game and not the creative ability of directors or their individual choices. So if you are making a sequel of a successful film then it sounds music to the money-bags, otherwise they already have projects lying in the pipeline waiting for their hired-directors. (Of course this is not the case with successful creators like Bhansali, Rajamouli or Hirani. But even they get more solid support when they are going for a Munnabhai, Bahubali sequel in comparison to a fresh unheard of subject.)

SAHEB BIWI AUR GANGSTER 3 is the latest example of this practice of encashing a known franchise, where you do not find the real Tigmanshu Dhulia in even a single frame right from the first scene to the last, which was never the case before even in his weakest film.

Trying to be a political thriller, interestingly the story did have some meat. But sadly, the writers and the director never seem to be interested in exploiting the potential plot, wasting every known artist in the cast be it Sanjay Dutt, Mahie Gill, Chitrangada Singh, Soha Ali Khan, Kabir Bedi, Deepak Tijori, Zakhir Hussain or Nafisa Ali. In fact the only person seriously acting in the film (as usual) remains Jimmy Shergill, who keeps making his efforts especially in the second half. Otherwise every other actor looks like simply doing his or her professional assignment as signed without any personal interest or putting in an extra effort.

The bizarre scenes in the first 15 minutes itself give you a fair idea about the film's poor making and then it’s all about your patience witnessing its various jump cuts, uninteresting story progression, strictly routine performances, silly killings and songs thrown at will including a cult classic.

In short, this surprisingly is a Tigmanshu Dhulia film which rarely offers any engaging moments and isn’t even worth trying despite a promising cast ensemble.
