At times looking at the names in the cast of a supposedly unconventional comedy generates some kind of excitement before its release and one wishes to watch it expecting the unexpected. That was exactly the case with SHARMA JI KI LAG GAI too, when I read the names of Krishna Abhishek, Brijendra Kala, Mukesh Tiwari, Hemant Pandey, Sunil Pal, Mugdha Godse and more playing the key roles in a film revolving around sex-columnist of a weekly newspaper.
However, the unexpected was never there and the film turned out to be a complete dud offering neither comedy nor trash to be enjoyed in its two long hours.
Remembering the literally confused decade of the 80s, most of the action and B-C grade films were then reportedly written and shot on location with the actors signed in without any script-in-hand or even a clear story-plot. But they somehow managed to make their films repeating the same old predictable formulas and set templates.
SHARMA JI KI LAG GAI seems to have been made in the same manner – written and performed on the sets wherein the actors too are visibly not enjoying their performances. The protagonist being a sexologist or sexpert, probably was the only thing in mind of the writer-director as the USP of his film, not concerned about anything else in the name of script or story progression.
And I am sure that veteran actors like Krishna and Brijendra Kala also very well knew that there is no comedy happening in the shots being finalised and canned in the camera.
