Sharaabi - Bobby Talks Cinema.com

Arguably, one of the most convincing acts of a drunkard, ever by an Indian actor, Amitabh Bachchan who plays the “Sharaabi” in this emotional drama directed by Prakash Mehra. Impressively Amitabh delivers a brilliant act which leaves you in doubt about whether he really took alcohol while shooting for a realistic touch (which in fact is not true). But undoubtedly, his act in the movie, can easily be rated as one of his ten best performances till date.

Equally believable and emotional is Om Prakash in the role of ”Munshi Ji” who is responsible for the upbringing of the young Amitabh in absence of his parents. Their scenes together are well written and highly emotional capable of bringing tears to your eyes. Especially, Om Prakash’s death scene shot in sync sound is one of the most memorable scenes of the movie. Interestingly, Urdu Shayri is also used in a very entertaining way along with soothing melodies in this unforgettable flick. One of the best scores by Bappi Lahiri, featuring many hit & famous numbers like “De De Pyar De” & “Mujhe Naukajha Mangwa De Re”. A not to be missed pure Bollywood style emotional drama.
