THE PLEDGE is a mystery drama with a fresh, exciting and intense plot that makes you think about human nature, the power of intuition and the commitment with your work. Jack Nicholson gives an award winning performance as a retired crime investigator who decides to take up a tough case as his last assignment. And the way he carries himself in the movie is truly commendable as a power packed performance, for which the credit has to be given to the director Sean Penn, a renowned veteran actor himself calling the shots in style.

Sean chooses a tough and complex subject based on a novella by Friedrich Dürrenmatt written in 1958 titled The Pledge: Requiem for the Detective and does full justice with its unfamiliar narrative without emphasizing on the usual action or chase sequences. In addition, it has sharp unexpected twists in the script which are bound to take you over after a while. A fine example of real as well as engrossing cinema for the thinking viewers, THE PLEDGE is great directorial venture by a well-known and much acclaimed actor with a memorable performance by another legend in lead. So do watch it especially for a spellbinding performance by Jack Nicholson.
