The underrated, adorable, new-age onscreen mothers of the recent decade. (Articles on Cinema by Bobby Sing)

Moving over the most famous and repeatedly cited Achla Sachdev, Lalita Pawar, Leela Chitnis, Durga Khotey, Nirupa Roy and then Reema Lagoo, Smita Jayakar, Kirron Kher and even Ratna Pathak Shah, this is about those adorable mothers in Hindi films of the recent decade, who silently won over the viewers but still remained mostly underrated, despite making major contribution in their hit films. And I am sure you would agree with the statement while going through the names given ahead, recalling their much appreciated movies and well enacted roles.

Dolly Ahluwalia
Mostly seen as a fun loving, frank, vibrant and friendly (Punjabi) mother in VICKY DONOR, BAJATEY RAHO and LUV SHUV TEY CHICKEN KHURANA, Dolly Ahluwalia is a NSD Gold medalist and a National award winning costume designer too besides being a fabulous, natural actor.

Tisca Chopra
Playing a different noteworthy mother in her various projects (including a negative one), Tisca proved her versatility and impressed both the viewers as well as the critics in films such as TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, ANKUR ARORA MURDER CASE, QISSA, RAHASYA and GHAYAL ONCE AGAIN in the recent years.

Mehar Vij
She won hearts in just a few scenes appearance in BAJRANGI BHAIJAAN and then forced everyone to notice her splendid act in SECRET SUPERSTAR winning an award too. Besides, her elder sister act in TUM BIN 2 also was a truly charming one.

Seema Pahwa
Above all, the most lovable as well as entertaining mother of the recent years remains Seema Pahwa, seen in similar (but not repetitive) roles in enjoyable films as AANKHON DEKHI, DUM LAGA KE HAISHA, BAREILI KI BARFI and SHUBH MANGAL SAAVDHAN. Coming a long way from her famous act of Badki in the first mega TV serial HUM LOG in the 80s, Seema can certainly be rated as the best onscreen mother of the present times without any slightest of doubt or argument.

Apart from the above, Neetu Singh in DO DOONI CHAAR, Sakshi Tanwar in DANGAL, Sarita Joshi in DASVIDANIYA, Sadhana Singh in JUGNI and Swaroop Sampat in KI & KA successfully stood out in their lovable appearances as the important onscreen mother winning hearts.

Cheers!
