The biggest merit of FRYDAY is that you get to see an interesting and fresh cast together on screen for more than half of its duration, providing wholesome entertainment without going overboard or being offensive. A typical no-brainer kind of situational comedy aptly titled FRY-DAY, it surprisingly works for a good amount of time and rises much above the last few releases of our good old Govinda.
Featuring Varun Sharma, Prabhleen Sandhu, Digangana Suryavanshi, Bijendra Kala, Rajesh Sharma and more performing with one of the most loved entertainer of his times, FRYDAY sadly takes too much time coming to its enjoyable, entertaining content, becoming its major drawback. But once the film finds its momentum, it fairly keeps you engrossed through all fine performances, many witty one-liners and sudden twists and turns post the intermission.
Based on the same old theme of mistaken identities messing up with each other meeting at a common venue (Govinda’s house in the film), FRYDAY also repeatedly gives you a feeling of watching a comedy play, having the same backdrop for the entire two hours of duration. No songs in the film other than the title and end-credit tracks also add to the same feeling and as a fan I did expect at least one song of Govinda, may be performing on an old hit track of his, playing on the radio or TV.
Directed by Abhishek Dogra with story-screenplay by Rajeev Kaul and well-written dialogues by Manu Rishi Chadha, wish the team had taken care of the first 45 minutes of the film that really hamper the spirits of watching a Govinda comedy. Plus it was indeed disappointing to see an actor like Sanjay Mishra being wasted in just one scene. Frankly FRYDAY takes time to pull you in, even after Govinda is there on the screen playing a theater actor. However they all together successfully manage to deliver the expected entertainment in the film’s concluding hour.
On a different note, loved the honestly with which Govinda replies 'Pehle National toh milney de' in reference to winning Oscar for his acting skills and good to see Varun Sharma maintaining the innocence of his famous Choocha act without being repetitive.
In all FRYDAY is a watchable average entertainer that might be much more than that for all the die-hard fans of Govinda.
