LITTLE THINGS (2016-19) (Web Series/Netflix) - It mostly has just two characters on screen and they still amazingly keep you engrossed for three complete seasons of 21 episodes. (Notes by Bobby Sing)

Love stories in movies and web series always focus on their two lead actors taking the narrrative forward, but along with many lovable supporting characters who contribute a lot to the project’s overall reach and impact. Many a time, it’s the supporting cast that actually becomes the second-best feature (or the backbone) of a hit love story along with the impressive lead couple.

Contradicting the above basic rule, we have also witnessed movies in both World cinema and Indian films wherein the entire script just has conversations between its two lead characters, but it still turns out to be a widely acclaimed film considered as a cult classic. However, it’s extremely difficult to achieve any similar success in three seasons of a web series, when the stop and fast forward buttons are right there in the hands of the viewers.

That’s exactly where Little Things comes out as a winner with nothing boring or monotonous in its three seasons, exploring the daily life events through a highly relatable interaction between its two lead actors. The story revolves around a couple living together in Mumbai (celebrating their live-in relationship) featuring Mithila Palkar as Kavya and Dhruv Sehgal as Dhruv. Using a mixed lingo of English and Hindi, the series completely follows the new millennium narrative as lived and experienced by the young passionate couple.

Accurately representing the new-age thought process and value system, it talks about almost everything felt by the youngsters working in big corporate houses, devoting most of their time to work, earning fat salaries. Struggling with their scary insecurities created by a lavish style of living, the writing excels in presenting the exact scenario and it’s a mature take on the issues conceived without caring about the commercial requirements.

But then, it all actually works because of the outstanding chemistry between Mithila and Dhruv, with Mithila taking the lead, becoming the key attraction of the series throughout the three seasons. While the girl wins your heart with her charming smile, style, and immensely likable mannerisms, Dhruv leaves an equally strong impact through his innocence and an effortless act of a mature male friend. Besides, the toppings on the cake are the brief appearances of a well-chosen and talented supporting cast in its various episodes.

In short, this is a series belonging to the young. And it mostly remains fresh and enjoyable with very few lazy moments or downers, making us relive many memorable chapters of our past or ongoing personal lives. It instantly establishes a loving connection. Hence, go for it as a must, before the fourth and final season releases in a few days.

Rating : 3.5 + 0.5 / 5 (with the additional 0.5 for the adorable performance of the couple)

Directed by Ajay Bhuyan, Ruchir Arun and Sumit Aroraa
Starring : Mithila Palkar, Dhruv Sehgal, Navni Parihar and more.
