VADHAIYAN JI VADHAIYAN (Punjabi) - If only you can laugh on anything and everything served as comedy. (Review By Bobby Sing)

Watching this latest (yet another) comedy from Punjabi Cinema made me recall the times of the mid-80s to 90s when new Pakistani comedy plays used to come every 3-4 months as two-audio cassettes set and in VHS tapes. The plays mostly used to feature almost the same team led by Umar Sharif and we all really enjoyed them a lot both in audio and video formats particularly in the late 80s and the early 90s. Slowly and steadily their stage acts started getting repetitive and the impact diminished leading to a sharp decline in their demand towards the late 90s.

Exactly the same seems to be the case with the trend of comedy movies in Punjabi Cinema at this moment fast moving towards their unavoidable, scary saturation point.

To be specific, same directors and same writers coming up with similar films with an almost same cast featuring Gurpreet Ghuggi, Jaswinder Bhalla, BN Sharma, Binnu Dhillon, Karamjit Anmol, Upasana Singh, Harby Sangha, Rupinder Rupi and many more has become a norm just like the Pakistani Comedy Plays mentioned above. Occasionally these films feature a leading singer-turned-actor STAR (along a heroine imported from Mumbai) bringing the crowds in and a few songs are included too, thrown here and there in the script, especially in its first half.

As far as the script is concerned, its normally around a marriage and then various sequences are created related with the event generating laughter, mostly coming from the funny and witty one liners.

For instance in this latest comedy VADHAIYAN JI VADHAIYAN, just before the marriage the boy suddenly goes blind and just before the climax he gets his eyesight back as per the instructions of his writer/director. And the whole comedy revolves around his two friends trying to hide the fact from his relatives in various pre-marriage functions. (A typical Pakistani stage comedy kind of idea as I strongly felt)

Now if that sounds good to you as a comedy, then you can easily go for the film and laugh on all the forced comic sequences continuing and further strengthening the ongoing questionable trend. But since for me, the film never turned out to be anything natural or well-conceived by a talented team, I would not like to recommend it at the cost of a high-priced multiplex ticket. So you can easily skip it for a while, waiting for its online release soon on one of the famous portals.
