The trailer, the subject and the cast of this series certainly got me interested as something to go for, reminding the recent MeToo movement at social networks. But the other major feature that got me excited was the fact that the series was based on a UK show LIAR and therefore must be having something great to watch, worth remaking officially.
However, the outcome didn’t turn out to be as per the expectations as the series loses its focus soon and then goes on adding many absurd twists and turns along with a few unrequired sub-plots that actually disturb and ruin the entire interesting premise. Featuring all mature characters, its basic theme revolves around a lady accusing a reputed doctor of rape on their mutually agreed ‘date’. But she herself has a suspicious history of allegations and mental stress right from her young years.
The basic idea seriously sounds great but sadly the series is nothing even close to that due to a confused directon, uneven pace and scattered writing. It comes to the point at once in its opening episodes but then fails to sustain the momentum due to the reasons mentioned above. In addition, the lead performances by Rajeev Khandelwal and Aahana Kumra also remain ineffective throughout, whereas both Vivek Mushran and Pavleen Gujral as the investigating officers and more in the supporting cast act impressively.
On second thoughts, if this was scene to scene inspired version of the UK series, then a lot must have been lost in the translation, as the Indianized series doesn’t really hit the mark as it should have. In MARZI, the writers and director try to be more dramatic than realistic losing the grip right from the second or third episode despite having a fine art-direction, look and background score.
So, you can watch it if you must for your own reasons but the series is not on the recommended list of BTC.
