THUPPARIVAALAN (Tamil / 2017) - A stylishly conceived, entertaining investigative thriller inspired from Sherlock Holmes. [TTP (To The Point) Review by Bobby Sing] |
Written and directed by Myyskin, THUPPARIVAALAN (meaning Sleuth) is a Tamil detective crime thriller inspired from Arthur Conan Doyle's characters Sherlock Holmes and his friendly assistant Watson (mentioned in its opening credits). Vishal, plays the eccentric, restless detective in the film who is desperately looking for a case when a little boy comes to him reporting a surprising murder of his pet dog with a bullet. The detective takes up the case which eventually leads him to a deadly group of killers operating right in the heart of the city.
Beginning on a shaky note with an over the top narration and casual commercial (romantic) elements added into the storyline, the film actually starts impressing the moment investigations result in some shocking revelations. The cold-heartedly executed killings further make you take a serious note of the proceedings before some henious crimes, a slickly fast paced action and noteworthy background score begins making much more than just a decent impression.

Hi Bobby, you must also see another gem from south-Vikram Vedha. Saw it last night and must say that I was bowled over by it. Although the narrative looks simple and loosely based on the Vikram Betaal, but the story has several layers to it if you think about it after the movie ends.

Haven't seen this movie Sir. BUT strangely I saw few similarities between its storyline and Feluda stories : 1. A little boy asking for Feluda's help to find his lost bird which unfolds a larger mystery.

That is interesting Avik. Have read all Feluda Stories published in English but couldnt recall the exact story.

Am not sure Sir if below stories have been translated into English (the second story is a popular one but the first one isn't).. 1. Napoleon er chithi (Letter from Napoleon) - it starts with a little kid asking for Feluda's help. 2. Royal Bengal Rahasya - one of the protagonists got killed/committed suicide in a jungle..at the climax we get to know that he was struck by lightning while searching for treasure at night and in the process his sword (probably he was carrying it for digging as well as his safety precaution) also get magnetic properties.

I have read the second story Avik and may be the first one too long back but cannot recall exactly. |
